My name is Daniel Vlad, but you can call me Dani. I was born and raised in Romania.
I have been married for 15 beautiful years to my wife, Ramona, who loves to travel, sing and cook all kinds of foods from around the world. Together we have traveled the world and have influenced many lives. We have a 8 year old daughter who loves ballet, and playing with barbies and polly pockets with her friends.
Growing Up Under Communism...
My beautiful little girl.For the first 17 years of my life I lived under Ceausescu's communist regime. It was hard was for my parents to provide for us. Everything was restricted. The electricity was limited and food was rationed. Each person in the family would get one loaf of bread a week, and some other small rations.
The only time we would get to eat a chocolate bar or a banana was once a year, during Christmas as a gift. Even for that we had to stand in lines for many hours in cold temperatures, sometimes even fight for it as people would get impatient. I have always been an adventurous and have pursued the things I am passionate about. At 10 years old I joined our local wrestling club and came to love this sport very much. With hard work and dedication several years later, at 16, right before the fall of Communism in 1989, I became the National Champion of Romania in my weight class.

Just like my father, it did not take me long to realize that I was an entrepreneur. One of my first businesses was building electronic audio equipment from scratch and selling it. Coming from a difficult family situation I have always worked hard and managed to provide for me and my family.
Soon I started to see that helping others is one of the greatest joys in my life. Even now I remember the day I started to really invest in other people's lives; it was young orphans that were abandoned by the old regime. It was such a blessing to be able to help them.
Several years later I became a minister, planting my first church and starting a charity foundation to help my community in north-east Romania. These tools and the skills that I have acquired over the years have helped me fulfill my dream and passion in reaching out to those who need it most.
About our trip to the US...
Since 1998 my wife and I have been visiting the US on short trips to connect with friends and sponsors that have been partnering with our ministry in Romania. It's been a great privilege for us to be able to learn the language and the culture of the American people that over the years we have come to love so much. In Oct. 2006, after over 14 years of ministry in Romania, we decided to visit our friends in US on a temporary tourist visa we've already got.
Once we got there, after several months we applied for a temporary religious visa for our ministry opportunities that had come up. It took us over 2 years to receive an answer from the USCIS. During this time, we encountered many obstacles in getting our visa in spite of our best efforts.
Then after all this time... we encountered a huge snag...
A small unfortunate mistake on our sponsor's part caused us to lose our visa and we had to return home to Romania!
During our stay in the US:
Just as in Romania, I can't take any rest from helping and investing in others. In spite of the visa situation (we were not allowed to work), I found places to VOLUNTEER in the community we lived in! With a background as a minister and wrestler I was able to get involved in teaching and coaching wrestling. Little I knew that coaching wrestling would open up so many great opportunities to live out my passion by investing in the youth of America as well as their parents. Some of the kids I have coached won state and national titles and improved their lives beyond wrestling.
